Building a Cultural Publishing Platform
with Integrated Marketing, Distribution, and Audience Growth
Repositioning an independent press to expand reach, strengthen discoverability, and connect books to readers through a structured, multi-channel system.
The Situation
Doppelhouse Press is an independent publisher focused on literary fiction, cultural criticism, and emerging voices. The press has a strong point of view and a distinctive catalog, but growth has been limited by fragmented marketing and distribution systems.
Titles are well-produced and thoughtfully curated, yet discoverability has depended heavily on individual efforts rather than a coordinated strategy across channels.
Event & Launch Support
We led and supported a series of book events and author engagements in Aspen, creating visibility, driving attendance, and connecting the work to a highly engaged cultural audience.
These efforts demonstrated the opportunity to expand beyond individual launches into a more structured, repeatable system for audience growth.
Book trailer and campaign system for We Bring You An Hour of Darkness by Michael Bourne, published by Doppelhouse Press. The video layers trailer footage with marketing collateral, event notices, press coverage, and scenes from Après Book Club events—integrated into a unified launch designed and organized by Confluence Brand Strategy to build awareness and connect readers across Aspen and the Roaring Fork Valley.
The Challenge
The goal is not simply to promote individual titles—it is to build a system that can support long-term audience growth and repeatable success across the catalog.
Key challenges include:
Limited metadata optimization across distribution platforms
Inconsistent visibility across bookstores, libraries, and online channels
Lack of structured audience development
Campaigns operating at the title level rather than the brand level
Missed opportunities to connect press identity with readership growth
How We Structured Growth
We are building a connected system linking publishing, marketing, distribution, and audience engagement.
Integrated publishing system designed to strengthen discoverability, align campaigns, and build long-term audience growth
1. Editorial Positioning & Brand Clarity
We clarified the press’s identity to ensure consistency across titles, campaigns, and communications.
This included:
Defining a clear editorial point of view
Aligning messaging across catalog titles
Establishing a recognizable voice across channels
2. Metadata & Discoverability Systems
We optimized metadata to improve visibility across key distribution platforms—especially in how metadata drives book discoverability, including Ingram Content Group and Edelweiss+.
This included:
BISAC category optimization
Title, subtitle, and keyword refinement
Sales copy structured for search and discovery
Alignment across distributor and retailer listings
3. Audience Development & Content Systems
We shifted from title-by-title promotion to building a consistent audience ecosystem.
This included:
Email and newsletter strategy
Social content aligned with editorial themes
Ongoing engagement beyond individual launches
4. Campaign & Launch Strategy
We developed structured campaigns that extended beyond publication dates.
Key initiatives included:
Coordinated social media campaigns
Press and media outreach
Influencer and reader engagement
Cross-channel promotion aligned to each title
5. Events, Partnerships & Cultural Placement
We positioned titles within real-world cultural contexts through events and partnerships.
This included:
Book events and readings
Local and regional partnerships
Community-driven audience engagement
Alignment with cultural and literary networks
6. Distribution Strategy & Channel Alignment
We aligned distribution efforts across retail, library, and direct channels.
This included:
Bookstore outreach and placement strategy
Library engagement and visibility
Coordination across distribution platforms
Consistent positioning across channels
The Results
Visibility, Reach & Audience Growth
The system improved how titles were discovered, positioned, and supported across their lifecycle.
This resulted in:
Increased discoverability across distribution platforms
More consistent visibility across bookstores and libraries
Stronger audience engagement across channels
Improved alignment between editorial identity and marketing
Rather than relying on isolated promotion, the press now operates with a structured system that supports both individual titles and long-term growth.
Stronger discoverability driven by aligned metadata, structured campaigns, and consistent audience engagement across platforms.
What Changed
Publishing shifted from title-by-title to system-driven
Metadata became a strategic growth lever
